Add Contributors

In this article, you will learn how to add contributors to projects and components and the different permissions levels they can have.

Add contributors to a project

Navigate to your project or component "Overview" page.

Then, click the Contributors tab in the navigation bar.

Type your contributor's name into the search box and then click Search. You can search by name only.

Add an unregistered contributor

An unregistered contributor is a user who does not have an OSF account but who is someone who you would like to be listed as a contributor on the project or component.

If your contributor does not have an OSF account, no results will appear.

To add them as an unregistered contributor, click the add as an unregistered contributor link below the search box.

Enter your contributor's name and email address into the respective fields.

Then click the green Add button.

Choose the permissions level you want your contributor to have. See the Choose permissions section of this help guide for instructions.

Next, if there are no components within your project, you will see a green Add button. Click Add, and your contributor(s) will be added to your project. If your project does have components, you will see a blue Next button in the modal. Click Next to continue. See the Add contributors to components section of this help guide for instructions on what to do next.

The unregistered contributor will be notified by email that they have been added to your project. There will be a link in the email that they can use to claim their OSF account.
