License Your Project
You can add a license to your project to allow others to copy, distribute, and make use of your data while allowing you to retain copyright. If you do not see the license you want to use, you can upload your own license. By default, components receive the same license as the top-level project. However, you can modify this license in each of your components. If you are not sure what license to apply to your work, there is lots of good information online. For example, the website http://choosealicense.com/ provides an interactive license picker.
Choose a license
Go to your project or component, and your "Project Overview" or "Component Overview" page will appear.
Under the project or component description, click Add a license.
The "License" section will open. Click inside the "Choose a license" menu, and a drop-down menu of licenses will unfold.
Choose the license from the drop-down menu that you want to add to your project. Some licenses, including the "No license" option, require that you provide the year and the names of the copyright holders.
When you're finished adding a license, click Save in the bottom right of the "License" section.
Upload your own license
If you don't see the license you wish to use, you can upload your own.
Click inside the "Choose a license" menu, and a drop-down menu of licenses will unfold.
Select Other from the drop-down menu, then click Save.
Then, upload your license as a text file called "license.txt" to OSF Storage in your project or component.
