OSF Preprints Generalist Server Suspension
Effective 8/25/2025, we will be temporarily suspending submissions to the generalist server hosted on OSF Preprints. This change does not affect the other community-run preprint services hosted on OSF Preprints (a full list and description of services hosted on OSF is available here).
This suspension will allow us to review how the service is being used and moderated, and the impact it's having for advancing open scholarship. We will use this to inform our strategy for how best to position our services to support the research community. Read more about the history of the generalist server and the OSF Preprints service on the COS blog.
This is only a suspension for new submissions. We will continue hosting all existing preprints on the generalist server, and authors who need to revise their preprints will still be able to do so.
We understand this may be inconvenient for some. There are excellent preprint, postprint, and paper services that are supported and moderated by disciplinary communities, on OSF and other platforms. This resource can help you discover other services based on your research area or community, and the ASAPbio Preprint Resource Center has excellent tools and information to help with other publishing needs.
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact our support team at support@cos.io. We will continue to update this page as new information is available.
