How the OSF Projects Transition Affects the GFS Registry

The GFS Registry and your preregistrations are not changing. The GFS Registry will continue to support preregistration of study plans including linking data, materials, papers and code archived elsewhere.
What is changing?
Beginning November 16, 2026
- New GFS preregistrations will no longer automatically include an associated OSF Project.
- New standalone OSF Projects can no longer be created.
Now Through February 19, 2027
- Existing OSF Projects may continue to be edited.
Beginning February 19, 2027
- Existing OSF Projects will become permanently read-only. They will remain viewable, findable, downloadable, and accessible through existing links.
- If your associated OSF Project is private, the contents will remain available, but no changes other than making them public will be possible.
Does this affect me?
You only need to take action if you have used the associated OSF Project created with your GFS preregistration to store files, organize your work, or collaborate with others. If so, review the OSF transition support guide and complete any necessary steps before February 19th, 2027.
