You can rename files and folders directly from your OSF project. This help guide will walk you through how to rename files and folders.

Rename from the "Files" tab

Open your project, then click the Files tab in the navigation bar.

The "Files" page will appear.

Click the options box designated by the three vertical dots next to the file or folder that you want to rename.

Then click the Rename button in the toolbar.

Enter a new name for the file/folder into the textbox in the dialog box, then click save.

The file or folder name will be updated. If the name is the same as a file or folder already in the directory, it will remain separate as they both have individual file version histories.

If you are interested in merging the files with the same name, that can only be done by uploading a new version of a file without an existing file history. You will need to download the latest version of the file you want as the latest version and upload it to your file tree under the same name. you can then delete or rename the old version of the downloaded document.
