How to Add Files to Your Registration
Introduction
This guide will walk you through the steps to add files to your OSF preregistration as a badge or open resource item. This process ensures your files are connected to your preregistration and easily accessible for researchers, funders, and editors.
This workaround is a temporary solution. The product team is exploring the possibility of allowing files to be uploaded directly to the preregistration or archived separately. Until then, this method ensures your materials are accessible and connected to your preregistration.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure your file is uploaded to an OSF project or a repository that can generate a DOI.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Accessing Your Project: Navigate to Your Project: Go to your Dashboard or "My Projects" page and select the project associated with your preregistration.
- Confirming File Location:
- Check the File: Ensure the file you want to add is uploaded to the OSF project or component.
- Public Access: Confirm that the project or component containing the file is public (Public will be grayed out). If the project must remain private, create a public component for the file.
- Generating a DOI for the File:
- Generate DOI: In the project or component, go to the top and click "Create DOI."
- Copy DOI: Highlight and copy from the 10 to the end of the DOI.
- Adding the File to Your Preregistration
- Navigate to Preregistration Tab: Go to the projects registration tab or your "My Registrations" page.
- Open the Registration: Click on the title to open your registration.
- Open Resources Tab: Click on the Resources tab on the left side panel.
- Open Add Resource Panel: Click the green plus button to open the Add Resource panel.
- Fill out the panel. Add the DOI and select a resource that best fits the file or material you are adding. You may also include a description of where the link will take them (ie. the component or project with the file) and the name of the file they are to access.
5. Confirming the Update
- Check Visibility: Verify that the file is correctly linked and visible to anyone who has access to the preregistration.
