License Your Project (OSF Projects)

You can add a license to your project to allow others to copy, distribute, and make use of your data while allowing you to retain copyright. If you don't see the license you want to use, you can upload your own license. By default, components receive the same license as the top-level project. However, you can modify this license in each of your components. If you are not sure what license to apply to your work, see https://choosealicense.com for help.

Choose a license

Open your project, then click the Add a license link on the left.

The "License" section will open below the link.

Choose a License

Select a license from the drop-down menu, then click Save.

Add the License

Upload your own license

If the license you want to use is not listed, you can select "Other" and upload a textfile of your own license.

Select Other from the license drop-down menu, then click Save.

Upload your own license

Write up the terms of your license and save them as license.txt.

Then, upload the textfile to your project.
